Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

This year, I dressed up as Saffron from the British Comedy, Absolutely Fabulous. Two of my work friends joined me as Patsy and Edina. By the end of the day, we’d decided that we were each a bit like our characters, since 99% of our costumes came out of our closets, but the characters took our personality traits to extremes. So, without further ado, may I present the cast of Absolutely Fabulous!

We would have been without a photographer, but luckily a Green Lantern swung by to take our picture.

You can tell she’s a real one because her ring glows.

I got some amazing feedback from folks:

  • The manager whose office I sit outside said, “You look cute! Now, are you dressed up?” Methinks I need to re-evaluate my work wardrobe.
  • One guy from the office actually recognized us without being given a hint, “AB FAB!”
  • Another one asked if I was Amy Farrah Fowler off of Big Bang Theory and I had to concede that perhaps this year I’d stumbled on a double costume!
  • I swung by the HeB (grocery store) on my way home. A couple of teenage guys approached me and the first one said, “Nice costume!”. I replied, “Thank you” and smiled. The second and less quick-witted one followed this up with, “Is that a costume?” I just continued smiling, nodded, and kept walking.
  • A four or five year old little boy in the store gave me a, “Cool!”….he was evidently sure it was a costume.

Overall, another fun Halloween! Thanks for the great costume idea, Edina! And points for great execution to Patsy!

Ps. I almost forgot, when TH saw me, he said, “are you allowed to wear a skirt to work?”. He cracks me up. But, I do love some pants/jeans. Thank you, Katherine Hepburn!

About a week ago, I was able to go to College Station to visit a friend, meet her new puppy, and watch the Fightin’ Texas Aggie football team Beat the Hell out of Baylor! WHOOP!
Turtle and I got all marooned out for the game. Can you tell I’ve got on EXTRA sunscreen?

Here is Miss Penny in the pumpkin I’d begun carving. She was so cute and tiny that her mom had to hold her to keep her from falling into the pumpkin!

She was so fun and sweet; it was great to meet her!

Ps. We also got to visit the twins again, but I was too busy holding and cuddling them to get pics this time. My apologies for not sharing their excessive cuteness.

Generally, I think it is quite tacky to post about a gift item prior to giving it, but I can’t wait to share these socks, and I’m not sure when I’ll get to visit my Grammy, so I’m breaking my rule. She’s a lovely lady and she’d probably want you all to be able to admire her socks as soon as possible. The good news is that I’m pretty darn sure she’s not keeping up with my blog, so I won’t spoil the surprise. Hmmm. I may not be able to wait. I may have to mail her these puppies. I don’t think I can take it… guess I need a new tagline
Katherine the Great
– more impatient than you can imagine.

These socks are soft and beautiful and lovely and wonderful and they totally remind me of her. This is, interestingly enough, the first pair of socks that I’m like wow, these are lovely. Don’t freak out, I didn’t just wake up and decide my knitting is fantastic – I think it must be the silk yarn (Southern Silk Sock from White Bear Fibers in Starry Night) and the pattern (Usak). Yet another from the Silk Road Socks book by Hunter Hammersen that is fabulous. I like it even more than expected which seems to happen with every pair from this book. What is amazing is that I expect to like the socks and then somehow I like them even more. every time.

So, here’s to my Grammy. Let’s all take a moment and send a happy thoughts her way. She’s a great lady; I hope she likes these and that they fit!

update: she got them in the mail Sat. 10/15 :)
