I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

The Campaign

There was quite a bit of humor, but there was a lesson as well. I think the lesson was supposed to be that it would be nice to have Dylan McDermott for a stylist.

This movie wasn’t quite what I expected, but educating the American people about the political system/machine by way of a summer comedy is not a bad idea.

Bourne Legacy

While some of the action was ah-mazing, the story seemed placed in between the action so they could put Bourne in the title.

They should have ripped out all the Jason Bourne references and showed more of how Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) got from one place to the other. Maybe he was a shape-shifter?

If I’m ever being chased by people and I need to beg strangers for help, I think I should try to channel Rachel Weisz. She’s very convincing.

note: Wear a motorcycle helmet because this movie was totally unrealistic. I was pleased to see that Jeremy Renner was wearing appropriate footwear while riding.

Ps. Updated to add that I’m not a huge Edward Norton fan, he’s been a tad skinny in the past, but he has NEVER looked as good as he did in Bourne Legacy. I didn’t know what his character was talking about half the time (he just spouted Bourne buzzwords), but good for him that an extra few pounds turned him from creepy bad guy to movie star imo.

disclaimer: I have not yet seen Total Recall starring Arnold.
My thoughts:

1. I was worried near the beginning that the movie was going to be one continuous chase scene, thankfully, it was not.

2. My compliments to the costume designer(s). I think Colin Farrell should just give all his shirts away to needy folks.

3. Also, I’d like to know what he eats because while he was cut, he wasn’t crack ho skinny.

4. This movie made me want to go work out because Kate and Jessica were in great shape too. And I always say that it is important to be able to run….you know, in case you’re being chased.

5. The ladies had great hair. I’d like to think my hair could look that great all the time if I had a staff of people around to see to it. I wonder if Santa could bring me a team of hair-styling elves for Christmas.
Total Recall

6. I could have used more John Cho. Bet you wish you had a nickel for every time someone says that.

7. Overall, a good action film. I felt like there were some slow points, but I’m not sure what they could have trimmed, so I give it a B.

In other news, I’m soooo ready to see Looper, which doesn’t come out until Sept. 28. I feel like I’ve been watching previews for six months….and I’d boycott it because I’m that annoyed by previews for it, but I want to see it way way too bad. I guess “they” win.

Last weekend, The Husband and I went to see this movie, but it was sold out….three weeks after opening. good sign.

Then, a friend told me that her husband read the book and found the movie disappointing. bad sign.

I still imagined I would enjoy Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I had low expectations….like when I saw Snakes on a Plane, and all I really wanted was to see some snakes. on a plane. So, that movie was great for what it was…which to recap, was snakes. on a plane. Likewise, I thought, hey, it’s not going to be Braveheart, but if I see Abraham Lincoln and he’s hunts vampires, it’ll be a fine movie…keeping in mind that I like vampire movies quite a bit more than I like movies about either snakes or planes.

I could not have been more wrong. I loved this movie. Benjamin Walker was an ax-wielding badass. Dominic Cooper was likable. Rufus Sewell was convincing as always. I enjoyed the story, the action, and the ending. Suspending your belief in physics for the duration of the film is a good idea, but if you’re already watching a vampire movie, you should be halfway there.

Disclaimer: There’s a better than average chance that you won’t enjoy this film as much as I did because my movie requirements are: good-looking actors, action or romance or a moving story, and a happy ending.

…and AFTER you’ve seen the movie, and you’re wondering something about the last scene, you should click this link. You’re welcome.
