Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

In case you don’t know who Joan Crawford is, her oldest daughter published a book containing allegations that Crawford was emotionally and physically abusive to her two oldest kids.

Don’t get your hopes up that Mark Wahlberg is going to be shirtless at some point. You’ll be disappointed.
Ted
Some young women (under 25) may see this film and not appreciate the humor. I heard, “Well, that was a stupid movie.” from one girl after the movie. The Husband pointed out that she was probably too young to get a lot of the jokes. I think young men will enjoy the fart jokes and physical humor enough to gloss over any well-written jokes they don’t get (think 80’s).

Overall, if you’re looking for an adult comedy about the relationship between a guy, his girl, and his teddy bear, I thought it was a whole lot better than it had to be.

I took The Husband’s plain black socks (and TH) to see Brave in 3D at 9:45am at the Alamo Drafthouse….TH’s idea to minimize the crowd and it was a great call.
Brave
The story is strong, the film is gorgeous and has a beautiful soundtrack. I suspect it will take its place beside Steel Magnolias as a timeless classic about the complexity that is the mother-daughter relationship. Overall, excellent!
Ps. Get there early if you go to Alamo because the Pixar shorts are icing on the cake.

1. I thought Charlize did a great job which might be because I’m a huge fan.

2. I’m totally over Kristen Stewart. Her “Braveheart” speech failed to impress but she didn’t have a ton to work with.

3. If you are about to jump off a cliff into the surf, you should try to take off some layers so you are not weighed down by your huge dress, petticoats, pants and boots. Write that down.

4. Several scenes were too long. The Sound of Music hike through the mountains scene had me wondering if they were trying to increase soundtrack sales.

4b. I could have used a little more closure on the Snow White/Huntsman relationship if I’m already in the theater for over two hours.

5. The costumes and scenery were AH-MAZING!….but I would have been fine without Mirror Man.

6. A twig of a girl on a fresh rested horse riding bareback would leave huge grown men on war horses with full armor & weapons in the dust.

7. I was disappointed to learn the dwarves were not actual little people. Totally charming, the lot of them.

So, overall, a good flick as long as you’re not expecting Lord of the Rings.
