(I have the flu, so I’m posting a Christmas story.)
Let us first note that my brother’s wife (J) had until last fall, never commented on the blog. I assumed she was not a reader. So, I posted pics of the completed socks she was getting for Christmas and didn’t post a blog link on Facebook. No worries. Then, out of nowhere, J commented on HER socks! I thought something to the effect of “Sons of Biscuits! What are the odds?!?” but never said anything.
the rest of the story.
I handed J a Christmas package and she said, “OH! I hope it’s socks!”
me: “It’s better than socks?”
J: as she’s opening, “better than socks?” like she can’t imagine there is such a thing.
She opens the package and is surprised to find the socks that she admired on the blog.
me: “They’re award winning socks! They won honorable mention at the Texas State Fair.”
J was thrilled and immediately kicked off her shoes to try them on. They fit beautifully. WINNING!
At this point, she told me that she did not remember picking out the yarn (I can’t really imagine such a thing, but that’s what she claims) and thinking when she saw the really pretty socks on the blog that they were for one of my other sister’s in law, she was jealous and loved them. I was VERY pleased to have surprised her after all.
Ps. If you fancy a pair of Annetrelac socks for yourself, you might want to buy yourself some Schaefer Anne yarn. I’ve heard that the genius dyer at Schaefer is retiring.

How the evening went:
8:40pm The Husband and I arrive at the theater for the 10 o’clock showing. We are evidently the only people this excited to see H & G.
9:00 I’m knitting a dark blue sock and ask The Husband, “Why is it so dark in here?”
The Husband: “Because it’s a movie theater, not a knitting studio.”
me: “So, I’m confused, this is NOT a knitting studio?”
9:20 Other people enter the theater. A teenaged boy sits two seats away and proceeds to talk passionately to his friend for a solid 30 minutes about comic books. Same teenaged boy then says, “I mean, I’m not THAT into comic books.” I couldn’t help thinking to myself that clearly he was THAT into comic books and being a little sad that he couldn’t be himself. and then I thought that it would have been like me saying, “I’m not THAT into knitting.” Being an adult and comfortable in your own skin is vastly underrated.
10:00 The movie
– This movie was pretty bloody. When I started thinking about how I prefer the way Quentin Tarantino does blood, I knew they’d gone over the top.
– The script was better than expected. Possibly because the movie was only 90 minutes long.
– My favorite character was the troll. Played by Derek Mears and voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, he’s charming. And the best part is, his name’s Edward. A troll. named Edward. love it!
– Overall, it was what I expected and I enjoyed it for what it was. A cheesy bloody action film based on a fairy tale. I don’t always have highbrow taste in movies, but I’d watch a sequel and I’m willing to admit it.

knitting movie review
I’m kind of cheating because this isn’t my finished object, but it is super cool and Turtle said I could blog it, so here we go.
She used this tutorial for a double-pointed needle holder to make me my very own one of a kind…….
Knitzi Holder!
I’m super excited because my Knitzis are really pretty wooden handmade sock in progress holders that The Husband has given me and I hate to think of them getting dusty on my hobby room shelves in between socks.
Didn’t she do a fantastic job?!? I love it! Thank you, Turtle!!!
Ps. Check out what others have finished at Tami’s Amis and Wisdom begins in Wonder and Natural Suburbia
