Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

Dear Kate,
Welcome! We are so glad to welcome you into our warm circle of friends. Your mommy is a very special lady. She is strong and wise and will teach you how to be a fantastic woman. She knows many things and will be happy to share them with you. Listen to her and take in all her knowledge. It will save you time, effort, and tears. Mother knows best….999.9% of the time. Your Auntie Michelle will tell you that there is no such thing as 999.9% of anything and she’s right. She may also tell you that I tend to exaggerate things for dramatic effect and she’s right about that too. If there is one thing you can count on, it is that if your mom and Auntie Michelle agree on it, you can bet on it. Write that down. As you grow into a kid, young lady and then adult, the best advice I can give you is to enjoy your youth. Smile. Laugh. Love. Dance. Laugh some more. Dear girl, I wish you friends, good books to read, a love of knitting, and faith.

Dear Pippa,
Welcome! We are so happy you have safely arrived. You’re the eldest, but I thought that at least once in your life, you should get to hear that someone “saved the best for last”. There’s a lot of pressure being the oldest even if only by a few minutes. Normally, Kate would get to learn from your mistakes, but with both of you so close, I think you’ll get to share in all the joys and fun and mistakes together. Life is a journey and I wish you a beautiful one. It will be nice for both of you to always have each other. I know you’ll be able to appreciate how wonderful having a sister can be. The good news is that you won’t have to wear hand-me-downs because ya’ll are twins. There isn’t any bad news. For some reason, I think you’ll be the one that is a sci-fi fan like your mom. Time will tell. Live long and prosper, dear girl.

Ps to both~
When you get older you’ll realize that you’re less than a fortnight old as I write this. So, feel free to share letters as applicable. You are both special and greatly loved.

    Wow, wow, wow.

How precious and sweet this is.

  2. Meghan says:

Are you going to handwrite these or should I print them of for the baby book? Also, as the “mother” referred to above, I am not sure the percentage is correct. I fear I am right far less than that. But I appreciate the sentiment.

Thank you for writing these. They are very special and I will treasure them.

I’m happy to handwrite them if you like. Shall I put them on one piece of paper? Should I make two copies, I think? Just let me know. :)

  3. Karin says:

Congratulations Meghan! You were just a “little” pregnant with the girls when I met you at the Yarn Harlot reading. Enjoy your sweet little ones.
