I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

Do you remember that one class you took. You know, the one where you worked your arse off just to pass. Engineering statistics, anyone? Just me? okay well, the second muppet sock is kind of like that. I KNEW that pleasant striping was possible, I just had to start the cast on at the right place. I cast on no less than 15 times. I’m not kidding. There was a week in there where all I did was cast on for these socks and knit the first 8 rows to see how the striping would play over and over and over again.

Muppet sock

ewww. big pool of green.

In the end, I figured it out and I’ve never been so proud of 8 rows of ribbing in all my born days. If you’re going to knit socks with this yarn, for the love of all that is wooly, make a note somewhere of what color you began the cast on with for the first sock.

WINNING!

    Engineering statistics?

Uh, yeah. You’re on your own with that one, sister. =)

  2. I can’t say I took Engineering statistics either but high school calculus just about did me in.

I think this exact issue is one of the reasons I have been soo hesitant to knit socks … one of these days I will bite the bullet.

I didn’t take calc. in high school, but knitting socks is not as hard as I sometimes make it.

    I’m so glad it worked!

  4. Mine was organic chemistry lab … and I’d have given up a long time sooner on that yarn. Way to stick with it!

  5. Evelyn says:

lol I’d have just turned the sock round until it matched the other one and then done the heel from there, I admire your dedication! They look good though

    • Katie says:

The problem was that it wasn’t striping. It was just green on one half and red/purple on the other. blech!

  6. Donna says:

It was well worth the time – I love the way it striped!

  7. Heather says:

Oh I did well in Engineering Statistics and Stats 2 and my grad stats class. But I like numbers that way, for me it was my intro to EE class that I was required to take. Seriously not an Electrical Engineer and could have cared less about circuits and waves. But I busted ass and got an A.

  8. Carol says:

Looks like they are going to be very interesting. I know what you mean about matching up stripes. Good luck with all that!

  9. Sezza says:

engineering statistics?? I found plan old statistics bad enough!! Your sock is looking great, so worth the effort to get it right!

  10. Regula says:

I don’t mind when socks don’t match. ;-) But yours look great!

  11. Michelle says:

You’re a better knitter than I. I tend to let my pairs become ‘coordinates’ rather than ‘matches’. LoL

  12. bonita says:

wow,you had to do the same thing obsessively over and over. what was that like?

    • Katie says:

hmmmm. I sure am loving the zombie socks compared to this nonsense and that’s the truth!
