Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

First, US women’s shoe sizes are BS. When I make socks for the dimensions I find online, they don’t seem to fit the matching live feet. This time, I decided to find someone with similar sized feet to the giftee and then talk them into trying on the first sock. Thankfully, even though this sock fit me (size 7.5 shoe), the yarn is just stretchy because my size 6 friend declared them a perfect fit.

Second, while Meghan was admiring the sock, she noticed that maybe I hadn’t woven in the end? but there was very little tail left? Sons of biscuits! I thought I’d done my usual method of knitting in the tail and for some reason I did not and I snipped the cast on tail off way way way too short. So, I carefully wove a bit of yarn through the cast on, tied a discreet knot and will weave in the longer tail…..tomorrow.

On to the second sock!

Love the sock! It’s great when they end up so stretchy, isn’t it? :) I have wide feet but skinny ankles so my socks tend to get all baggy in the leg unless the stitch pattern is particularly elastic.

in this case, I think it was the pattern design (bigger needles for the leg than foot) and yarn more than the stitch pattern, but I’m pleased for sure!

    That’s very, very, very pretty.

I’ve only tried to knit socks for another person on a couple occasions, and it was difficult not to have them there for sizing along the way. I’m glad that your socks are going to work out well for your recipient!

I always knit with size 2 needles and I cast on 64 stitches for MY feet and it fits. You are funny and I’ve been there many a times with sock fitting!!

    • Katie says:

My feet are the easiest for me to fit, but my life goal is to make socks for others, so I’m giving it a whirl….want to gift 50 pairs. We’ll see!

I’m telling you, that green is perfection.

    The sock is perfection!

  7. Carolyn says:

What a beautiful sock :-) . Good luck with sock 2!

  8. I love that pattern! I haven’t made socks for others yet but I can imagine I would worry the whole time if they would fit. They look lovely though, great job.

    • Katie says:

I think over time, I’ll worry less as I have more success. As I’m dipping my toe in the water, it is a bit scary.

    Love that pattern, looking good!
