So. I may have read one too many blogs on how you don’t want to jack up a nice knitting project with crappy finishing. I ripped the collar off this pretty cream sweater. Then I re-picked up the stitches and started again. Second time’s the charm. I’m MUCH happier. I only paused before ripping because I was worried it would look worse when I picked them up a second time. My fears were in vain.
After I picked up the stitches for the front of the collar, I tried to match the ribbing to the cables by varying the number of stitches in the ribbing as the pattern instructed, but that was a hot mess. I went back to K2P2.
Soon, this puppy will have sleeves and then off it goes to Turtle’s house for Baby 2. He’s going to loan it to his big brother first. That’s right, it’s a hand-me-up.

Ohhhh this is so pretty! Wish I could make stuff like this! :D
I think you totally totally could. Cables are a lot less scarey than they look. I promise!
Beautiful! I am seeing so many wonderful cables through the Yarn Along today. You are right about finishing. Always take the time to do it right or you’ll think of that one weird spot every time you see that project.
I know, it would totally bug me, but it was scary to rip.
What a sweet sweater! Love it in cream.
Thanks so much! I love me some cream cables. Totally classic look.
This is a beautiful, classic pattern and the idea of a hand-me-up is equally beautiful! Lena
Thanks so much. As a second daughter, I have definite thoughts on hand-me-downs. :)
It’s gorgeous, I love the cables. I think you made the right choice re-doing the collar. Much better to get it right than to be irritated with the finished project every time you see it
It would totally haunt me. I had to do it. At least it wasn’t third time is the charm.
Good for you, picking up the stitches again, I’m glad your fears didn’t come true, I have the same worry when I try to fix things.
It hovers at the back of one’s mind, right? When it’s just plain knitting, I know I can redo it, but picking up stitches from the decreases was a bit sticky.
Oh Katie your knitting is beautiful! I admire your willingness to rip out what’s not quite right. My knitting mentor says that’s a sign of a great knitter… And I love a “hand-me-up”! Much aloha, Lori
What a gorgeous wee knit, love the cables.
Thanks so much. I LOVE cables. :)
It looks so lovely and warm. Hand me ups are great!Glad the ripping out worked for you.
I can’t wait to see in on a kiddo!
