I forced this yarn to stripe/bend to my will and I’m terribly pleased with these socks. But, they no longer make me think of Muppets and Rainbow Connections. Now, they make me think of lessons learned, how happy I am that the person they’re going to LOVES them, and the one time in my life people compared me to a saint.

Pattern: Vanessa antiopa Socks by Hunter Hammersen
Size: Medium
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Solemate
When I hand washed/blocked these socks, they sank like rocks in water. I was surprised by this as my wool socks float. It seems that this yarn (55% superwash merino, 15% nylon, 30% viscose (rayon) fiber that interacts with your body’s microclimate to moderate temperature from being too hot or too cold) does not seem to have the water repelling properties of wool.
Colorway: Rainbow
Mods: The toes should have been all purled, but the giftee and I agreed that we prefer ribbed toes, so the toes match the cuff ribbing.
Needles: 2.5mm for the leg, 2.25mm for the foot

I’ve restarted the second muppet sock 7 times. Now that I’ve figured out where in the color repeats to cast on, I need to cut off the yarn I’ve knit with over and over because it is stretched all to Hades. So, the second Muppet sock looks like this for now. It’s in time out.

and I’m working on this pretty mitt.

It’s a test knit for Hunter Hammersen in Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20 – Dragonfruit and it is getting rave reviews from the people that are seeing it in the works.
Speaking of Hunter Hammersen, I’m going to be casting on socks for the July KAL before too long. They are really pretty, so join the group on ravelry if you like. It’s a super fun group and you might win a prize!

I felt like a genius for coming up with this pattern (Vanessa antiopa Socks) and colorway pairing and getting them to play nice… until I reached the heel. After turning the heel, yarn started pooling in a Kermit-like manner on top of the sock (a lot of green). (note: I gave up on the dpn’s with this pattern and switched to circular needles – there was some laddering and I finally decided it was not worth it.)

Once I got down to 66 stitches, the color pooling started to behave itself a bit better and things were once again chugging along…..until I realized that I did not actually read the pattern and was supposed to have continued row ONE of the chart all the way through the gusset decreases. Well, crap.

I must frog. This makes me think of Kermit again.

Ok. Row one ’til I finish the decreases. check. Now, onto the foot AND the rest of the chart. In spite of the false starts, I still think these socks are a quick fun knit.
