I volunteered to knit a pair of socks, selected blue yarn, and immediately started to re-think my color choice. Was the blue perhaps too smurfy? Then I saw it in person. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is exactly the color that Cookie Monster must be in real life. I am in LOVE. It’s got this depth to the color that makes me imagine Cookie is in my kitchen baking and talking to Siri right now. I adore it. I think I may be crossing into ‘Space Cadet doesn’t dye a color I don’t love’ territory.
One brave roly poly has decided that he too is attracted to these socks.
I sat cross-legged on my back patio and snapped a few pictures to capture the joy I’ve felt as I knit these socks. In addition to the color, the stitch definition on these socks is great and they’re going to hold up well, I can feel it.

Lycaena virgaureae Socks
Another pair of socks is finished and I find myself reflecting. I hadn’t considered that using the scraps from old socks would make me think of the socks these leftovers originated from. Now, my scrappy Lycaena virgaureae socks are like a scrapbook for 6 other pairs of socks. Well, 5 finished pairs of socks and a Texas Stars cowl that I plan to knit. at some point. after I knit all the socks.

A rare thing has happened. I looked at a pattern, pictured a color, discussed it with a friend, she agreed, then, and this is the kicker, I dove into my stash and surfaced with a hank that I LOVED for these socks.
This NEVER happens. Here’s the usual turn of events:
I pick a color, a friend (or two) convince me that another color would be wiser, I root around in the stash, change my mind 5 times, take 3 colors to The Husband. He picks one. I solidify my preference for a different shade and cast on.
So, even though these socks and I took a couple of wrong turns (How long have I been knitting socks? I forgot to turn a heel. I’m convinced I was distracted by my excitement over the color), I am in love!
