Ok, I’m trying not to be bitter with Lorna’s Laces because I’m reasonably sure it is not the yarn’s fault that every time I knit with it, the socks seem to be cursed. But….the evidence is mounting.

To recap, there were the Mermaids. Then, the Gentlemen’s Fancy Socks.
and now….the Rainbow Connection Muppet Socks are giving me a wee bit of trouble.

Take 1 – size Large 2.25mm (got gauge, but I really don’t like the way the yarn is pooling)

Take 2 – size Medium 2.5mm needles


This striping pleases me, but I’ve just realized that I’m not doing the twisted decreases, but rather just plain ole knit two togethers. I’m totally going to end up ripping back to the ribbing……..Third time’s the charm. (she types optimistically while humming Rainbow Connection to herself)

After the second sock gave me trouble, I did a bit of marathon knitting and was able to finish my gray socks for the Knit-A-Long after all. I got a kick out of the fact that I watched Mirror Mirror while knitting a mirrored sock; it was a better little Snow White flick than I was expecting.
I also watched Legend of the Guardians which was quite good. Finished grafting the toes during Leap Year (great romantic comedy if you’ve not seen it) and talked the husband into pausing while I ran outside to snap a couple of pics.

I like how these feel on my feet. (and no, my legs could not be any whiter. I think I could be a stunt double for Casper. Wait. Ghosts don’t need stunt doubles. I could be a body double for him. You know, in case he has really fat calves….and now I’m realizing, he doesn’t really have calves. nevermind.)

These socks are determined that I hate them. But, I will not be deterred. I love the idea of them.
and the yarn.
and the person they are for.
So I shall love them, despite their best efforts.

I was supposed to cast on 56 stitches for the second sock. You know. So it would match the first sock.

As I got to the heel and was really happy with my dropped stitches, I realized that I was only working with 54. Rat on a stick! But, I talked to their soon-to-be owner and decided not to panic (read “she talked me off the ledge”).

Our conversation went something like this:
Me: I only cast on 54 for the second sock!….and the first sock fit well and it was 56 stitches!….and I’m just OCD enough to be bothered that they don’t match; it is all I can do to not just RIP!
Bonita: Wait. I will try it on.
Me: But they won’t be perfect.
Bonita: They’re perfect because they’re handmade by you.
Me: Well, one of your feet is probably 2 stitches skinnier than the other.
Bonita: Yes, that’s why I limp.
Me: you limp?
Me: …or are you pulling my leg?
Me: again.
Me: That’s why I limp.

She tried it on. She deemed it acceptable.

It was a smidge tight.

You know I ripped it out.
