In a land pretty near here, a friend of mine was trying to knit some socks.
The yarn is Ella Rae Lace and the pattern was Gratitude. Evidently, you can’t use magic loop for that pattern or they turn out sized for elves, so she frogged several repeasts and decided to try something else.
Enter Gush. This pattern didn’t appeal to her in 3D as much as it had in 2D. And so, she decided that she didn’t really like Gush and started to look for another pattern.
Then, she ran across Inlay by the one and only Hunter Hammersen. This is the project that inspired her.
As you expect, I had to wonder why she didn’t just start with a Hunter pattern, but I just quietly grinned to myself and decided that with two babies at home, she wasn’t going to have time to rip Gush and get the yarn back in order. And since, I, as you may have noticed, have not had much to blog about, I offered to rip and wind for her if I could blog about her knitting journey. She agreed and so I give you:
Ella Rae Lace Merino (before and after).
In the end, it turned out that she wasn’t happy with Inlay either and I’ve decided that the yarn is cursed. I’ve heard that if you stick cursed yarn in the freezer for a bit, sometimes that helps.
Ps. And if you don’t believe in cursed yarn, here’s proof that she’s a badass knitter, so it must be the yarn.
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.
The Campaign
There was quite a bit of humor, but there was a lesson as well. I think the lesson was supposed to be that it would be nice to have Dylan McDermott for a stylist.
This movie wasn’t quite what I expected, but educating the American people about the political system/machine by way of a summer comedy is not a bad idea.

Bourne Legacy
While some of the action was ah-mazing, the story seemed placed in between the action so they could put Bourne in the title.
They should have ripped out all the Jason Bourne references and showed more of how Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) got from one place to the other. Maybe he was a shape-shifter?
If I’m ever being chased by people and I need to beg strangers for help, I think I should try to channel Rachel Weisz. She’s very convincing.
note: Wear a motorcycle helmet because this movie was totally unrealistic. I was pleased to see that Jeremy Renner was wearing appropriate footwear while riding.
C+
Ps. Updated to add that I’m not a huge Edward Norton fan, he’s been a tad skinny in the past, but he has NEVER looked as good as he did in Bourne Legacy. I didn’t know what his character was talking about half the time (he just spouted Bourne buzzwords), but good for him that an extra few pounds turned him from creepy bad guy to movie star imo.
A lot of folks seem annoyed by Olympic spoilers everywhere. I’m enjoying them because it allows me to know which events I want to watch and which ones I’d like to fastforward through since I recorded A LOT of the Olympics. This also helps with another problem. I was knitting and watching the Olympics and when I didn’t know the outcome, my hands were sweating a little bit. This did not occur when I already knew who was going to win. Yes, I’m one of those people that like to know the ending before I decide if I’m going to see a movie or read a book. What can I say, I LOVE a happy ending!
In other news, a friend of mine is going to knit A Horse of Course by Stacey Graham. She bought most of the yarn at our LYS and I offerred to wind it for her.
I give you Berroco Peruvia in Sol (gold), Pimentia (red), Baya (purple), Aquamarina, and Oats.
Does this remind anyone of anything?
