Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

I don’t think there are any real spoilers.

1. The bad guy (Loki) has really great skin.

2. Iron Man has the best superhero soundtrack.

3. If you’re going to be walking down a street when aliens attack the planet, it would be very handy to be wearing pants rather than a skirt….just a little Public Service Announcement.

4. The Hulk is badass.

5. I enjoyed seeing Robin from How I Met Your Mother in something else. She pulled it off.

6. I’m fascinated by what facial hair does for Thor. He might want to throw out all his razors.

7. Extra fun from the previews: Is this summer’s Spiderman a gymnast or do they have the most amazing CGI people ever?

Ps. Oh, yea,…. and the movie rocked.

Dear Kate,
Welcome! We are so glad to welcome you into our warm circle of friends. Your mommy is a very special lady. She is strong and wise and will teach you how to be a fantastic woman. She knows many things and will be happy to share them with you. Listen to her and take in all her knowledge. It will save you time, effort, and tears. Mother knows best….999.9% of the time. Your Auntie Michelle will tell you that there is no such thing as 999.9% of anything and she’s right. She may also tell you that I tend to exaggerate things for dramatic effect and she’s right about that too. If there is one thing you can count on, it is that if your mom and Auntie Michelle agree on it, you can bet on it. Write that down. As you grow into a kid, young lady and then adult, the best advice I can give you is to enjoy your youth. Smile. Laugh. Love. Dance. Laugh some more. Dear girl, I wish you friends, good books to read, a love of knitting, and faith.

Dear Pippa,
Welcome! We are so happy you have safely arrived. You’re the eldest, but I thought that at least once in your life, you should get to hear that someone “saved the best for last”. There’s a lot of pressure being the oldest even if only by a few minutes. Normally, Kate would get to learn from your mistakes, but with both of you so close, I think you’ll get to share in all the joys and fun and mistakes together. Life is a journey and I wish you a beautiful one. It will be nice for both of you to always have each other. I know you’ll be able to appreciate how wonderful having a sister can be. The good news is that you won’t have to wear hand-me-downs because ya’ll are twins. There isn’t any bad news. For some reason, I think you’ll be the one that is a sci-fi fan like your mom. Time will tell. Live long and prosper, dear girl.

Ps to both~
When you get older you’ll realize that you’re less than a fortnight old as I write this. So, feel free to share letters as applicable. You are both special and greatly loved.

I was working on sock 2 for my dad and there was suddenly a big blue BLOB on top of the sock. ew! The first sock did not have this issue! So, I took 9 minutes (yes, I timed it) and ripped out at least three days worth of knitting. Yes, a more observant knitter might have realized the blob was appearing at the end of day one. Nevertheless, I broke the yarn and then knitted a bit…the blob was starting to reappear, so I broke the yarn again and went back to knitting. The color cooperated after that.

Things were moving along swimmingly until I started to graft the heel while sitting at my hairdressers. She’s a lovely lady and did not seem to mind that I was chanting knit-purl-purl-knit under my breath as we discussed me teaching her to knit at some point. I got to the last what should have been four stitches. There were five. RATS! So, she and I then discussed the pitfalls of overconfidence while I ripped out half my grafting job. Sometimes I wonder if I only knit to keep myself humble.

Happy May Day!
