Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

You may remember Bonita as my human shield from the House of Torment or the Ode written for her recent birthday. Most recently, she earned even more brownie points when she recommended the Walking Dead to me and loaned me the first couple of seasons on DVD. And so, it was only fitting that I make her Night of the Living socks (pattern by Cambria Washington) in this beautiful Dizzy Lettuce Claire de Lune yarn in the lichen colorway.

This is the prettiest cake I’ve wound up. It boded well for things to come.

I was right; I’m loving how this is knitting up. I just started the first run and can’t wait to drop the stitches.

Knitting & Crochet Blog Week hosted by Eskimimi Day 2:

Many moons ago, I was contemplating my first pair of fancy socks. I decided to go with the most popular pair on ravelry, the Monkey socks. The color was never a question. The flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz are blue, so clearly, I must have blue flying monkey socks. I cast off on Turtle and her Mr.’s wedding day and wore them with my boots to the reception. I still think of that day fondly each time I wear them.

What flying monkey project does the future hold?
There’s some Plucky Knitter Oz Primo Fingering in my stash.
Oz yarn
This yarn will be socks.

First, I check out the current Hunter Hammersen KAL —Linaria Bipartita Socks are on the horizon for April and we have ’til the end of May to finish. That’s doable. There are no bright green socks on the pattern page – I enjoy doing something a little different…….but I don’t think I love this pattern in green?

I flip over to see what socks other knitters have done with Oz on ravelry. Ran across a pair of Pergolas by modeste with leaves on them that I like. Why can’t I wrap my mind around knitting green socks that don’t have leaves on them? That’s an awfully weird rut to be in.

If you know anything about me, you know I’ve always got a Plan B. When I just cannot make a knitting decision, I follow the inspiration. Dizzy Lettuce Claire de Lune in the color Lichen and the Night of the Living Sock pattern both scream one of my friend’s names; I think I’ll just pair them up and hope the screaming stops.

I like to think I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day. But if I’m being honest, I like holidays in general. However, I like for V.D. to be more about friends and family and also The Husband, not about him spending money on roses or chocolate or us waiting in line for food (I’m never a fan of that). So, as per my usual M.O., I let him know that he was off the hook and bought myself yarn.

Thank you, Cupid! (who shopped in January)
Then, Tuesday, I cracked a tooth….and I came home to this.
Valentine
He got the last dog with brown ears, all the rest had pink ears and he knew I wouldn’t be into a dog with pink ears. He was not wrong. I know I loved Poochie in the 80’s, but I’m over it. The Husband is one smart (and very sweet) cookie.

Ps. I hope you all know that you’re thought of fondly this Valentine’s Day and I wish you a lovely day – especially my dear rocket scientist friend who was born on this day just a few short years ago. Happy Birthday, awesome lady!
