Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

The other article I knit for the book used Malabrigo Arroyo in the colorway Azules. Malabrigo Arroyo - Azules

The yarn was pretty and the pattern was attractive and tidy, but it didn’t move me the way the other yarn/pattern combination did…mostly because it was a hair more stressful. The reason for this can be illustrated with a picture of the leftover yarn for each.

After knitting the first half of the piece, I realized it took 1.75 ounces. Great! I had 3.5 total so that should be perfect. The problem is that while I was working on the brown item, I realized that weighing yarn on a cheap kitchen scale is not the same as weighing yarn on a nice yarny scale. What if it is slightly off?!? I thought this to myself a krajillion times as I knit and the ball got smaller. I should have requested more yarn after finishing the first bit.
Last Saturday, I was hanging out, chatting with a friend and was making progress and probably should have left at a reasonable 10 or 11 pm, but I was SO CLOSE to the end. Would I have enough yarn to finish the second half? I had to know.

I did have enough! and I left her place at 12:30 am. It was a gorgeous night.

A lot of folks seem annoyed by Olympic spoilers everywhere. I’m enjoying them because it allows me to know which events I want to watch and which ones I’d like to fastforward through since I recorded A LOT of the Olympics. This also helps with another problem. I was knitting and watching the Olympics and when I didn’t know the outcome, my hands were sweating a little bit. This did not occur when I already knew who was going to win. Yes, I’m one of those people that like to know the ending before I decide if I’m going to see a movie or read a book. What can I say, I LOVE a happy ending!

In other news, a friend of mine is going to knit A Horse of Course by Stacey Graham. She bought most of the yarn at our LYS and I offerred to wind it for her.
Berroco Peruvia
I give you Berroco Peruvia in Sol (gold), Pimentia (red), Baya (purple), Aquamarina, and Oats.

Does this remind anyone of anything?

I recently visited Gauge with my friend Sam. We were in the market to get her some dpns (double pointed needles) for her to knit socks. Yes, I’m infecting people around me.
Now, I’ve been admiring Dizzy Lettuce yarn for at least a year now and what do you know, we ran into Jennifer Miller! She’s the genius behind Dizzy Lettuce yarn! Yes, I discovered it was her when once again, I was chatting up a random lady in a yarn shop. If it keeps paying off, I’m going to keep doing it; she was super nice! She agreed to autograph the yarn I just HAD to buy (humor me) and pose for pictures. This one is my favorite.
Dizzy Lettuce
One of my knitting friends noted that I seem to have turned into a real knitting groupie. But, here’s the yarn – see if you can resist the spell – the pink yarn has glittery silver thread in it for Pete’s sake! and look at the depth of color in the lichen! I had no choice but to take it home with me and be a huge fan!

Ps. It might seem like I suddenly started purchasing a lot of yarn, but I tell myself, it’s ok because after all, I didn’t buy any yarn in May, so surely the stash is at a fine level. right?
