Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

I read a blog, The Bearded Iris, and she is one funny lady!

She seems to have passed out last week and bless her heart, her retelling of the incident was hilarious! So, I left a comment. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when ASassyRedhead let me know that I was mentioned on Iris’ blog! wahoo! I’m famous again! I’m Kat1e in case you don’t know that’s my usual handle; there are just too many Katie’s out there. After all, when you grow up with the name Katie Boyd living on Meadow Tree Ct. and there is a girl named Katy Boyd living on Meadow Tree Ln., you begin to feel somewhat common and learn to think of ways to distinguish yourself. I’m not saying I married TH because he had a wickedly crazy awesome unique last name, but I can tell you that I’d have taken longer to hit on him if his last name had been Smith.

Ps. I’m not gonna lie, it is really nice to be able to say, can you just look it up by my last name? I promise I’m the only one.
Pps. If you’re Iris and you want me to take your photo down, just let me know.

Update: Turns out I committed two faux pas with this post:
1. I linked to Iris and called her hilarious the day she blogged about discussing rape with her daughter. sorry.
2. Evidently, you are not supposed to blog about blogging. Hmmm…well, it is my blog, so I guess I can make my own rules….so, I guess there’s just the one.

I had some trouble with this puppy…pun intended. The pattern is Sheep Dreams by Dori Betjemann. There is errata. In my humble opinion, I think there should be errata for the errata. I figured everything out and I’m sure Dori is a lovely lady, but heaven help us, can someone test knit for her/the book?
In the end, I CO 127 (8 extra) and increased 1 and likewise decreased 1. In retrospect, I would like to have increased more (because the border seems a tad wider than the body), but since I had a pattern I decided to roll with it. In the end, I was VERY pleased with the final product, so I believe I’ll stop whining now. The Scotties are from a sweater pattern. L saved the pattern when she ran across it for just this purpose (when M had kiddos).

Note: My first cast-off was Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off. It was so much looser than my cast on that I had to rip it out and do a more traditional bind off. That was too tight. So, in the end I ended up doing a loose traditional bind off and that seemed to be just right.

A good friend of mine and her husband are expecting twin baby girls soon. We had a work babies shower for them today. I wrote a little poem for the invite:
(Friend and Husband) are expecting baby girls.
Around them, a good wish from each of us swirls.

They’ll have sugar and spice
and everything nice….Twice.

We’re planning to gather on the thirtieth of March.
To shower them with gifts and eat some yummy starch.

Come to the (something) conference room to celebrate soon.
The party will begin at two in the afternoon.

We look forward to all making a happy fuss! :-)
They are registered at Amazon.com and Babies R Us.

The theme was two peas in a pod and I should probably disclaim right now that I’ve been known to go a little overboard with themes.

The rocket scientist/green lantern co-hostessed with me and I’m pretty sure a great time was had by all. There were games; there were prizes, and I got to play Vanna White a little bit, so you know I had a good time.

The mom and dad-to-be were joined by the grandma-to-be and her sister.

One friend of ours made this lovely diaper cake and a bunch of these cute booties for party favors.

Another friend was able to provide sage advice for the parents-to-be to share with their girls.

Thanks go out to my co-workers for all being such good sports and helping out and humoring me.

Special thanks to my co-hostess for doing such a lovely job on everything including talking me off ledges. It is possible I freaked out a tad when I realized I hadn’t made proper arrangements for a corsage (turns out I don’t plan around prom like I should). Her first response was to say words like epic fail and that the mom-to-be probably wouldn’t want to be friends with me after that kind of screw up. But then, Co-hostess McSmartypants suggested we buy a flower and had cute pink diaper pins so we could improvise. I loves her!

It turns out, I can be a little high strung about parties. Who knew? (hint: everyone).

Congrats, dad and mom-to-be! Ya’ll are great folks and I know you’ll be great parents!
